Do girls/women find femininity a positive identity to aspire to? Could it be that femininity is a positive standard or might it be an implacable standard that we can never hope to meet. Is femininity inherent or is it about security in yourself? When I dance with my show choir group I feel disgusting and unfeminine. Is this because I lack femininity or because of an insecurity in myself that will take years to solve and can't be fixed in the two weeks before the show? Can Femininity be regarded as a quality of a woman/female? I don't intend this to read as a silly question. Although I'm a man asking this question, I don't know how many women regard femininity as a quality or not, particularly in these modern times, but I'm wondering, what any ladies/females on here, think about femininity in their life, and how they regard it/aspects of it.
Is traditional femininity popular for women anymore? My gran says that when she was young, girls wanted to be ladylike and polite and it was something that they aspired to and did classes on. Nowadays girls and women don’t seem to want to be ladylike. What has replaced femininity, politeness and elegance to be the modern ideal and what girls now want to be like? It seems like being feminine is really unpopular at the moment! Women don't seem to like feminine dressed and behaving women. Men don't seem to be attracted to feminine women either!
Question 2 What do YOU think Femininity is? Question 2/2 I have read a lot of questions in this section re: Femininity. I am interested in your own personal definitions not the dictionary ones. What do YOU think Femininity is? How do YOU decide if an act is masculine/feminine?
What are some good books about femininity? I don't want to manipulate anyone ........ I just want to be less of a tomboy and more of a traditional girl. Femininity by the dictionary - the quality of being feminine; womanliness. That's not really very detailed!
What do YOU associate with femininity? I'm taking some last minute photos for the AP Studio Art 2D Design portfolio I'm submitting next week. My concentration is femininity, and I'd like anyone's feedback on what things they associate with the word. The connections can be obvious or obscure - some suggestions so far: earings, old rotary phones, circles, make-up, bras, mannequins, bubbles, hair brushes, tea cups, lace. I have open mind, but please nothing obscene. Any imput is much appreciated!
What are some interesting books about femininity? I have been recommended The Fascinating Girl and Fascinating Womanhood but when I checked on amazon the reviews were pretty split down the middle. With some claiming it had changed their life and others hating it. Have any of you read them and if you have would you recommend them? Are there any other books on the topic that you would recommend?
What object represents masculinity, and what object represents femininity? I'm going to do a psychological experiment using a phallic object (male genitalia shaped), a yonic object (female shaped genitalia, a masculine object, and a female object. However, I'm having trouble with the phallic and yonic objects. Can you think of anything I might have lying around my house?
Why do so many women fight their femininity? It is so much fun being 'girlie', and doing 'girlie' things [for want of a better word], but I see so many women who dress like men, have their hair shaved practically to their scalps [older women are really guilty of this], and because they imitate men, they walk and talk like them. I just love wearing dresses and skirts [jeans are for very casual or gardening] and lacy blouses. And having some hair on my head. What do you guys and gals think? Wow, jen. You sound and look like you hate everyone. It wasn't necessary to be rude. I just asked a question. Times haven't changed that much - women are still women - or at least some of them are lol
Why do people have such issues with femininity? I like to wear pretty clothes and I am naturally feminine in how I act and speak and think. Why do people take such an issue with this and why does being feminine automatically mean that you are dumb? If I want to look and dress in a feminine way why does this make people think they have the right to criticise everything about me? Saying I am dumb or a flirt just because I make an effort to dress nicely?
How do you define femininity? I asked a question a few days ago about the definition of masculinity. Most answers included independence, self control, responsibility etc. All very positive qualities. If the opposite of masculinity is femininity, what do those qualities include? Dependence, impulsivness, irresponsibility? Is being feminine about wearing a dress, batting eyelashes and gold digging? Or can it be the female CEO in the power suit? Know It All - Don't answer the question if you're just going to be obnoxious. The paranoia you exude in so many of your posts is akin to conspiracy theorists.
What is true Christian femininity? Does femininity equal weakness? What would you consider true feminine behaviours and opinions? Apparently women who are feminine in how they dress are viewed as fake. I mean the natural sort of femininity where it isn't an act or a front. How much femininity is too much? When does being feminine in dress and behaviour become too extreme? Is there a cut off point when it stops being attractive? If so where is it? What sort of behaviour would make you be taken less seriously?
When is femininity not soft but still considered feminine? What might a person do that is considered feminine that isn't something considered soft? But it still has to be considered feminine ^_~ Wow, some of these are really great! I hope more people add to the list. ^_^ To Cristy, I wanted to message you, but your message options are disabled. =( I appreciated your comments. I don't believe that femininity nor masculinity are natural in a biological sense. ^_~ I'm composing a lesson and desired feedback for it so I posted this question. Also, good observation with the repressed sexuality comment! To Fab, Before I asked this question, I was writing an article called "elusive masculinity" in which one must define femininity or masculinity in order to define the other. There is not a universally accepted definition of either one, and there is no universal experience of either. Soft, is often a word many people think of when one asks them to describe femininity. However, with both femininity and masculinity, there are vast contradictions in traits used to describe them. (like soft and childbirth ^_~) PS I would like to point out that "Feminine" IS a social behavior. ^_^

Is society destroying the natural innate femininity of women? Women seem to no longer want to do what their bodies were meant to for them to do. Is it because women never were meant to do these things, or is it that society is deliberately training women to live contrary to their nature? So are women being freed to be their own persons and who they want to be for the first time in history, or are women being forced to be what they are not and pretending to enjoy it? While I'm at it, is it child abuse to raise children the opposite of their gender (who they are inside, not their physical sex)? Lets play nice. Back it with science and intelligence if you can. No knee-jerk reactions please. Is the brashness, rebellion, and fear of losing "rights" that is evidenced in some of the answers here normal inborn traits of women, or are these programmed by society? Where is the sense of duty and sense of responsibility that should come before desires and fun in ALL people? No, the burden of proof is on those answering. If you don't have that, I'd rather you not answer. Littleviv, You are the answerer, not me, so maybe you should tell me what I mean as well. I refuse to fall into this trap. There are no allegations, only a question if there is innate femininity and if society is responsible for destroying it. Since it is a question and not an attack as you allege, the burden is still on you. To Kimerley B. - The very reason that young girls are objectifying themselves is because femininity has be divorced from child-rearing and domestic responsibilities. Sexuality that is divorced from reproduction has always harmed civilization. Society has robbed girls of the very thing that gives women a sense of self-esteem, so they turn to degrading behavior to get attention because that is all that's left for them to do. In a vaccum without proper instruction in what it means to be a girl, this degrading sex-crazed nonsense is what you will get. We've stolen the special place of women and have degraded women to the place of certain men.
Is fertility and virility the same thing? Is femininity and fertility the same thing? Does a man who can’t have children become less sexy or attractive to females? I knew a beautiful woman who could NOT have kids and I would have killed my own children for a chance to mmm, get to know her (just kidding, I mean it didn’t make her unattractive.) So is fertility more important to women then men? Does the ability to have kids define manliness; or rather does the inability to have kids make a man a "worthless mate"
How did she pull of short hair with such femininity? Marilyn Monroe is considered the greatest sex symbol of all time. Long hair is supposedly more feminine than short hair but she had short hair!!! http://www.style.com/slideshows/standalone/beauty/icon/071206ICON/14m.jpg How does this make sense?
Is masculinity or femininity biological or just socially constructed? In the west masculinity/ femininity are considered just social constructs with no biological basis. That is to say that anyone can be masculine or femininie just by doing certain things or not doing certain things. Masculinity/ femininity according to this point of view lie outside of us --- in the acts that we do. The east considers masculinity/ femininity to be inherent/ biological. So, a masculine person will remain masculine and a feminine person will remain feminine, irrespective of the acts. Which viewpoint do you think is true, and why?
Do men prefer old fashioned femininity or modern sexy clothing? I am a collector of vintage clothing, from the 1920s-1950's, and sometimes when I am on the town doing errands I will slip on a vintage 1940's or 1930's dress, a stylish hat and a pair of dainty little gloves, sometimes if I am not in the mood to dress vintage, I will wear modern clothing which is really cute. The funny thing is when I am in modern clothing, even if it is a really cute outfit, no man has ever stopped me on the street to pay me a compliment, yet when I am wearing vintage, each time I go out, a man will stop and pay me a compliment, I also notice men make a real point of opening the door for me and going out of their way to be gentelmanly, this does not happen so much if I am dressed in modern clothing. Why is this?
What does femininity mean to you? When you think of a feminine woman, how would she appear in your mind with the way she looks, dresses and acts? Is there only one way to be feminine in your opinion, or would there be a broader variety of what you consider feminine? Opinions of both men and women welcome.
What is your definition of femininity? Is it always having your hair & nails done, wearing jewelry, cute shoes, speaking softly, using your hands while you speak, going shopping, going to "cultured" events like the ballet or the museum? Can you change your oil, change a tire, lift heavy things, like the outdoors, & stereotypically "male-oriented" activities? What is your definition of femininity & how do you fall into it on a scale of 1-5? Opinions are appreciated.
